ZEPHYRHILLS SHUFFLEBOARD CLUB
A DAY AT ST. PETERSBURG SHUFFLEBOARD CLUB
As we rode over to St Pete in a brand new, comfortable bus driven by our new friend Tim, Chuck Moulton read us some facts about St Pete’s Club history to familiarize us somewhat, with what we would see upon our arrival. It is a beautiful facility with many courts and historical buildings surrounding them.
At about 10:00 A.M. Saturday, a happy group of 46 ZSC members set out on a ESCOT bus to St Pete’s Shuffleboard Club (the oldest in Florida) as one of our activities in celebration of the 100th anniversary of shuffleboard being played in Florida. Although 2013 will be the 100th year, celebrations have already begun.
There was even a winter craft show at the coliseum across the street which many people managed to visit. This is where the final banquet will be held, after the International Singles Tournament in Oct, 2013. It is a magnificent facility with plenty of history also.
To sum it up, we had a very memorable day from start to finish and were back in Zephyrhills by 6:00 P.M. as planned. There might have been a little “napping” on the trip home!
A large THANK YOU to Chuck Moulton for organizing the trip and to the folks at St Pete’s for hosting us. Perhaps we will return one day. In fact, maybe many of us will return to play in the International Singles in 2013.

Upon arrival we were greeted and given a tour and talk by the club president, Christine Page. Jim and Beth Allen, of Allen R. Shuffleboard in Seminole also welcomed us and helped fill in some more of the history.....as well as providing snacks, which we all appreciated. Mary Eldridge, one of the club’s famous all time great players of the sport, was in attendance and was able to add more details about the club’s history.
We had the opportunity to play on the courts for a couple of hours and realized that they have 8 courts situated in front of the grand stand. This was so designed in order that all 8 finals can be played at the same time in front of the audience.
Chuck did an excellent job of organizing the day for us, from the prizes, to the snacks and drinks at the club, to the lunch/dinner at Ferg’s Sports Bar. All in all, we had a fantastic day. The weather co-operated and we were able to shed our jackets.
